Geography is a synthetic and integrated discipline covering physical and human environment, and the interaction between human and nature in a region at a various geographic scale. In particular, geography focuses on the subjects of physical and human-social aspects of a region, the process of spatial organization, and regional relationship as well. The students majoring geography education learn geographic knowledge and concepts for teaching geography in a secondary school and develop the capability to get a job in various public and private sectors, by taking several courses such as geography instructional media, urban planning, environmental planning, GIS, and so on. Also, the departmental field works held in spring and fall semester allow the students to combine theoretical learning in class and actual knowledge in reality by empirically observing and investigating geographic phenomena.

The purpose of the department of geography education is to produce a creative and responsible social studies teacher in a secondary school, who is highly qualified based on knowledge throughout the society which should be necessarily taught in a secondary school curriculum. After graduation, the students can be teachers in a secondary school or keep researching in the graduate programs such as general graduate program (master, doctor) and graduate program for teaching (master) offered by our department. Moreover, the students can be hired in various applied fields by taking the courses of human and physical geography as well as regional development, urban planning, environmental planning, GIS, and etc.
