Educational Objectives
Dental Materials Science is a fundamental discipline within the Department of Dentistry. Its goal is to foster an understanding of materials science regarding the physical and chemical properties of dental materials used in clinical practice, and to systematically organize and convey knowledge regarding the differences in clinical application and handling methods based on material science characteristics. The Department of Dental Materials Science possesses manufacturing equipment and various analytical instruments for materials testing, as well as equipment necessary for laboratory practice for undergraduate and graduate students. The department focuses on the development of new composite resins and dental alloys through the introduction of cutting-edge technologies, the development of multi-purpose hydrophilic dentin binders, research on surface modification of implant materials, research on high-performance dental polyvinylsiloxane impression materials, and the evaluation of the biocompatibility of dental materials.
