Educational Objectives
Orthodontic treatment is a branch of dentistry dedicated to correcting malocclusion into normal occlusion. It consists of general orthodontic treatment, which moves individual teeth to create an aligned dentition, and orthopedic treatment, which promotes the harmonious growth of the upper and lower jaws in growing children with unsightly appearances caused by jaw disharmony. As the most cutting-edge and specialized field within dentistry, it was the first discipline to establish a first specialty training program. Led by Professor Hwang Hyun-sik, all residents in our Department of Orthodontics are dedicated to academic advancement and providing high-quality care, serving as a leader in clinical orthodontics in Korea. By being the first in the country to introduce the concept of interdisciplinary treatment into clinical practice, we are committed to providing the best possible care for our patients. Furthermore, we have long since expanded our scope of practice into cutting-edge orthodontic fields, such as lingual orthodontics and aesthetic orthodontics, which have recently garnered significant interest. In particular, in the field of adult orthodontics, which involves orthodontic treatment for adults with tooth loss along with periodontal disease, it is recognized both domestically and internationally for having accumulated extensive know-how through collaboration with the Department of Periodontology and the Department of Prosthodontics.
